Larry Pittman Awarded the Renkenberger Spirit Award
The Michigan Rowdies take great pleasure in awarding Larry Pittman for the Renkenberger Spirit Award. Larry has selflessly served both the Rowdies and NAMGAR for many years, as well as being an active member in club activities. He has set an example for all to emulate. In addition, he is an all-around nice guy.
Larry’s first car was an MGA that he bought at age 21 for $325. After retirement, he bought a 1958 1500 roadster and restored it in 3-1/2 years. He joined NAMGAR in 2004 and the Rowdies in 2005. Larry and his wife Mitzi were both active members until she passed away a few years ago. Since then, Larry has continued to serve the club and take part in many activities. In addition to his MGA, Larry has a restored 1952 MG TD and is working on restoring a 1959 Magnette ZB.
Larry was NAMGAR Vice Chairman from 2017-2021 and 2024-2025 and continues to serve under the new title of Advisor Emeritus. Larry led the Rowdies’ effort to host GT-40 in Frankenmuth, MI in 2015. As NAMGAR Vice Chairman, Larry assisted each chapter that hosted a GT. This year, he was Chairman of the GT-50 committee for the Rowdies. It was a great advantage for the Rowdies to have someone with his experience leading our effort. Larry’s knowledge of NAMGAR requirements for a GT meant that the rest of the GT committee did not have to be concerned with that aspect of the planning. Throughout the process, he held regular Zoom meetings to keep things on track. He led the hotel negotiations and arrangements, which resulted in a very good working relationship with the hotel.
In addition to his other duties, Larry is the Rowdies webmaster. In that capacity, he also maintains the Rowdie member database which is used for printing and distribution of the A-Antics, the Rowdies’ bi-monthly newsletter. The Rowdie web site includes the club calendar, back issues of the A-Antics and other items of interest.
Larry embodies the spirit of the Rowdies and NAMGAR and could not be more deserving of this award.
The award was given to Larry at the Michigan Rowdies Christmas party in Dec of 2025 by Chairman Bill Weakley.
