NAMGAR Distance Award

NAMGAR gives a Distance Award to the NAMGAR member who drives an MGA, Magnette, or Variant the greatest distance to attend a GT. This award is named in honor of John Wright, a founding member of NAMGAR and its first technical editor. The distance is determined by measuring the direct, straight-line distance from the member’s home to the GT site, either using a map and a ruler or by using a computer program. Google Maps can do this by displaying a map that shows both the GT location and the member’s home, right-clicking on the member’s home, and then clicking on the GT location. A straight-line distance will be displayed at the GT location along the line connecting the GT to the member’s home. The GT Registrar is responsible for determining who receives this award.

Although a member may drive a longer distance from his or her home to the GT by taking a circuitous route or driving to the GT as the last leg of a vacation trip, it is only the straight-line distance from the member’s home to the GT site that is considered for this award. It is not given to trailered vehicles.

NAMGAR also gives a 1000, 2000, 3000, or 4000 mile dash plaque to any NAMGAR member who drives an MGA, Magnette or Variant 1000 to 1999 miles, 2000 to 2999 miles, 3000 to 3999 miles, or 4000 or more miles from his or her home to the GT site. The miles can be accumulated by any route. When members pick up their registration packets at the GT, they will be asked to state the mileage driven to the GT. A “Distance Sign In Sheet” is made available for registrants to complete upon their arrival at the registration table. The member’s word is the only verification required. This award is not given to trailered vehicles. NAMGAR is not opposed to members who trailer their vehicles. There are many good reasons why it may be desirable, or necessary, to do so. NAMGAR does, however, encourage its members to enjoy their MGAs, Magnettes, or Variants as much as possible; driving these cars is a big part of that enjoyment.
