NAMGAR GT Chapter Recognition Award
The NAMGAR Board of Directors created an award in 2011 to recognize the NAMGAR Chapter that is best represented at an annual GT. For 2015, the award was based on chapter attendance as a percentage of chapter membership rather than the total number of members attending the GT, and the winning Chapter receives two free memberships.
Starting in 2017 the award included $100.00 to the winning chapter, plus a photo on the NAMGAR website and in MGA!. The award has evolved further since then and beginning 2022 reflects the amount of activity the chapter has instead of its participation at GTs. The award criteria have evolved too, with the chapter’s events and membership outreach being considered along with event participation. This will give smaller but active chapters a chance at receiving the award.
The Chapter Coordinator sends a form to each Chapter Contact at the end of every calendar year. The Contact fills out the form and returns it to the Coordinator, who tallies the Chapter scores and determines the winner for that year. The winner is announced at the next National GT.
Since some chapters are in areas where it’s not feasible to drive all year a Drivable Months Factor (DMF) is calculated to help level the field for driving events. This is the reciprocal of the number of months per year that are considered “drivable” in the Chapter’s area, divided by 12. For example, if you can drive seven months a year in your area, your Chapter’s multiplier is 1/(7/12) giving 1.7. The DMF applies to general non-car events, general car events, single-day tours, and rallyes to make up for the limited time they can be held during the year.
Car shows and multi-day trips aren’t included because it’s unlikely anyone would schedule these in a period of bad weather. This also applies to hosting national and regional events.
Points for the award are calculated according to the following criteria:
