The NAMGAR Family Loses a True MG Enthusiast

The NAMGAR Family Loses a True MG EnthusiastIt is with sadness that we announce the passing of Rick Brown, NAMGAR member, a true MG enthusiast and a great ambassador for our marque. Rick passed away on September 10th, 2012.

Dave Houser, NAMGAR member, has written a few words on how he remembers Rick.

“I knew Rick from our time up in NY/NJ, when he and I found ourselves at the various NorthEast car shows held each year, from the Import Carlisle show to the ENYMGA club events. We always met up at the Moss Show. When we decided to head south and we told him we were heading to Brooksville, much to our pleasant surprise, Rick beat us by a couple of weeks. We joined the local Nature Coast English Car Club/Suncoast Classic MG Car Club and have been members for 10 years. Rick got involved with the NAMGBR as their Webmaster since 2003 and then took on the NAMGAR and AMGCR. As a member of NAMGAR, Rick participated in most GTs and he drove to most of them in his beautiful BRG MGA 1600. He was part of the Key West Regional Gang for 5 of the events.

“Rick served in the Navy, then joined the State Department traveling around the world. After that he joined American Express. He worked in their Twin Tower offices on Sept. 11….He survived that day and enjoyed many more time dedicated to his MG activities. Yes, he owned a 1970 Mini as well and supported each club in kind. Well, maybe with an edge towards his MG family. He was always there to help others and was a good friend.

“He will be missed.”

The funeral will be this Friday, September 14th. The day will begin at Brewer’s Funeral Home, 1190 S. Broad St., Brooksville Fl. Dress to match Rick and the Pall Bearers is MC Car Club Shirt. Anyone planning to join the LBC Caravan from Brooksville to Bushnell will be asked to form in the lot to the rear of the funeral Home. The Church Service will start at 10:00 at St. Anthony’s Church, which I understand is nearby. After the service, we will caravan to the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, where Rick will be buried with full military honors. The telephone number of Brewer’s is 800-722-4991.

About the Caravan: About a week ago, several of us were apprised that Rick had requested a caravan of LBC’s, particularly MG’s, to accompany him to the cemetery. We have quietly spread that word, but this is the official request to everyone who plans to attend. Let’s send Rick on his final journey in style!!

More than 30 British cars, including his own MGA 1600, escorted Rick from the church to the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. It was a fit and moving tribute to our friend Rick.
