Back Roads May/June 2026
Back Roads
Dean Hickenlooper, Vice Chairman
Well, the driving season is finally here, and I hope you are driving the wheels off your MGA. This year is certainly stacked full of events nationwide. With the Florida GOF/NAMGAR Regional just finishing (I hope some were able to attend) and the Arizona GOF/NAMGAR Regional coming up, you won’t have to travel far to be with MGA fans. If that’s not close enough for you, then how about the upcoming NAMGAR Regional in Colorado this June. Still not in your area, then how about the MG International in Sandusky, Ohio this August. So, if you’re north of the border, how about the NAMGAR Regional in beautiful Vancouver, BC for the Heritage Classic Weekend in August. Let’s not forget the Peachtree Chapter with its Regional down in Hiawassee, Georgia this September. Well, they’re really keeping the new Vice Chairman on my toes this year with all these Regionals and MG International. This is truly adding up to be an Awesome year of events. I’m so grateful for all the Chapters and participants who stepped up to organize and support these events.
On a more sobor note, at the last NAMGAR board meeting, it was noted that the membership number in the registry has been on a steady decline over the past several years. As Vice Chairman, I’d like to reach out to all members to encourage those within your MG clubs who own or have interest in MGAs to join NAMGAR. Also, if you attend your local car shows and come across MGAs, talk with their owners and let them know about the benefits of being a member and about the website where they can join. It’s going to take a combined effort from everyone if we want to get the number back up. I know it can be done, especially with the interest of the upcoming generation in metal work and old car restoration. We just need more exposure out there. Most don’t even know what an MG is, let alone an MGA, the best-looking British Roadster ever made! Please join me, and let’s get the word out there.
Oh, before I forget, we are still looking for Chapters that might be interested in hosting a GT or even a Regional. Just send me an email, and I can send you the information you need to get started. That’s all for now. See you on the backroads.
