Bob Shafto, NAMGAR’s new tech editor as of Jan 1 2024.Bob lives in New Hudson, Michigan with his wife Linda, He is a Michigan Rowdie and a member of NAMGAR.

Bob is a retired, General Motors employee. During Bob’s career at GM he worked at General Motors Research Lab, and was responsible for designing engine controls and controllers. Bob was later transferred to the Advanced Powertrain Systems Division at GM’s Milford Proving Ground where he worked for 25 years.

Bob has received numerous awards to include the Boss Kettering Award, GMs top award for innovation. He was also presented a DARPA award for Autonomous Vehicles with Carnegie Mellon University finishing 1st place. He also has thirty records of invention, and many were granted patents.

He has completely rebuilt two MGA’s, a not so pretty 1960 1600 roadster, which draped the Cover of MGA, in the 2023 May/June issue.

A couple of years ago Bob started a project on a 1957 1500 roadster. This car was completed in one year, and his now on the road with the 1600. Both cars are very road worthy and are driven. His ’57 now resides with his cousin in Michigan.

Bob has written a couple articles published in MGA Magazine (MGA Top Header Rail July Aug 2021 and MGA Crankcase Ventilation July Aug 2022) you may remember them. Crankcase Ventilation article is on the website dated April 22, 2022. Bob has also worked on other members cars to include MGA’s, MGB, MGTC and an MG Magnette.
