The NAMGAR Board would like to announce that Greg Poffenbarger has been named to the position of Communication, Advertising, and Marketing Mgr. for NAMGAR effective January 2024.
Greg and his wife Mary currently live in Fort Worth Texas, where they have lived for 11 years. Before Texas they lived in a small town in upstate New York for 30 years. When moving to Texas in 2012 they joined the local MG club, the Texas MG Register. They are very active with the club, hosting many events. Greg has held many positions in the club to include a Board Member at large, Regalia Chair, President and now Tech Team coordinator, and Mary has been there to support him.
Mary and Greg have been married for 39 years. They have two sons who also live in Fort Worth area.
Greg was born in Portsmouth, VA, and graduated college from Old Dominion in 1975. He worked as a buyer for Colonial Stores after college. He worked there for several years before changing jobs which took him to Owego, New York. He switched careers in the early 2000’s and went to work for Lockheed Martin as a Subcontract Manager. In 2012 he transferred to Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas.
His involvement with MG’s started early. His first MG was a 1971 Midget that Greg bought during his sophomore year in college. He drove the Mdget for 10 years. Greg currently owns a 1948 MGTC, 1960 MGA, 1965 MGB roadster and a 1966 MGBGT. He also own a 1956 Austin Healey 100-6 which is currently in the middle of restoration. The first car ever restored in the early 80’s was a 1971 TR-6 but he sold it to buy a house.
For those who know Greg his real love is for all things MG. The second car he fully restored is a 1960 MGA 1600. He purchased the car in the early 1980’s, in pieces. It took him 30 years to fully restore it. The restoration was completed in time for them to drive on their maiden voyage in the “Rallye to Reno” in 2011.They only had a week, so they were able to drive from Upstate New York to Ocean City Maryland then to St. Louis and back home to New York. They were hooked. Mary and Greg have driven their MGA all over the country and absolutely love it. Their first GT event was GT-18 in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada. After that event they joined NAMGAR.
NAMGAR and TMGR are a big part of their lives. The saying “The cars will bring you but the friends you meet keeps you coming back” couldn’t be truer. We have meet some of the most wonderful people since owning our MG. Greg says he can’t imagine ever not having an MG in his shop.
