The Greater Pittsburgh MG Club was started in 1990 by Morry Cohen. Morry had attended one of John Twist’s winter technical seminars, and John urged everyone to join their local MG or British car club. If there was no local club, John said you should form one. So Morry took the suggestion to heart and placed an ad in the Pittsburgh newspaper antique car classified section looking for MG enthusiasts to form a local MG club. There were about five replies to that ad, and three people turned up for the first meeting. We have now grown to have about 100 MG families from around the Western Pennsylvania area. Our bi-monthly newsletter is the MG Crier. The primary focus of the Greater Pittsburgh MG Club is driving and enjoying our cars and the friendships made through those events. We only have one business meeting per year in the fall, which is mostly to plan the events for the next year. Like many clubs, our winter events focus on meeting at members house for dinner and conversation. When warmer MG driving weather arrives, various members plan and host driving tours over scenic roads, often visiting points of interest and usually ending with a meal. We have a summer picnic, which includes various funkana type driving games. Like NAMGAR, the cars are the magnets which draw us together, and the friendships that develop is the glue which keeps us together.
