2011 Mac Spears Award Winner
The Mac Spears Award is named for the North American MGA Register’s founder and first Chairman. The award was established in 1994 to recognize people who make a significant contribution to the MG community, especially as it pertains to MGAs and Magnettes.
By the 1990’s, a relatively new world wide web was becoming a regular source for restoration and technical tips for the MGA and Magnette. But the information was unorganized, and not always accurate.
In 1997, an MGA owner launched a website to post his travels to Alaska, documenting the trip…and what it took to prepare for such a trip in “an MGA with attitude.” From there, the website expanded to document frequently asked questions from other MGA owners seeking answers for topics that were not covered in repair manuals.
As the site grew, this self taught MGA guru covered virtually every aspect of the restoration and maintenance of the MGA with accuracy and a real-world approach. The site has since become the number one online resource for MGA technical information.
As of 2011, this person continues to answer specific questions on a timely basis, contributes to various e-groups such as the Twin Cam Registry and others, and still enjoys traveling with his MGA and trailer. When in attendance at NAMGAR Get-Togethers, his knowledge and experience is always freely shared with anyone interested.
The North American MGA Register therefore proudly recognizes Barney Gaylord as a very deserving recipient of the 2011 Mac Spears Award.
You are invited to visit Barney’s website.
