Looking for History on this MGA Twin Cam Race Car
Giuseppe Gallara from Turin, Italy, recently contacted us regarding his 1959 MGA Roadster Twin Cam race car. This is believed to be one of just six cars produced in Abingdon for racing.
This car has chassis number YD3-2343, and left the factory in July 1959 equipped for racing. It had a competition windscreen, an alloy steering wheel, competition seats, a 4.55:1 rear axle, and a close ratio gearbox. It was shipped directly to the US, and is Chariot Red, with a black interior.
The car was exported from the US in 1993, and restored 2 years later. Dave Nicholas, of MG Vintage Racing fame, recalls seeing two red race cars – one driven by Joe Giubardo, and one belonging to Sherm Decker.

I’m the owner of the MGA Twin Cam chassis YD3/515 and in its history file I find that this is the Ex-Joe Giubardo MGA Twin Cam which he used to race (1959-1964). At the time the car was white and indeed had the numbers 9, 10 or 90.
Would someone know more about this car’s early history or have some photos of it racing at Lime Rock or SCCA races?

Did he have a brother by the name of Syd, who lived on Long Island and was a member of our Greater NY MG Chapter of the NEMGTR?
Last I saw of Syd, he owned a Momo MG.

I knew of Joe Giubardo in the late 50’s into 60’s. Joe’s MG Twin Can was always “Old English White” when raced by him in period on the US East coast. He raced the MG with numbers 90, 10, or 11. I have pictures if interested!
