NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2017, VOL 43 NO 2
Let me give you a peek into the last two months. Our home was filled with an overwhelming amount of “stuff” and documents that had to be gone through before a decision could be made on whether they should be kept, given away, or destroyed, and the only person who could do that was yours truly.
I tackled the chore and hoped to be able to put the house on the market sometime this year. First I thought I might be ready by the end of July and when that didn’t happen, I was thinking the middle of August. Well, it didn’t come to pass until the end of August, and then within ten days of listing it, with thirteen showings in eight days, it was under contract!
Of course there was a tiny problem; the buyer wanted the closing in 30 days. Tiny wasn’t really the word to describe it. It was more like overwhelming, but I set about the task and with help from my daughter, son-in-law, granddaughters, Bill’s brother, his wife, and her sister, somehow the job got done. The Magnette was still in the garage just ten days before closing and all of Bill’s model trains didn’t leave as soon as I would have liked, so it was difficult working around them. October 11 was the actual closing with paperwork signed, checks handed out, and keys turned over.
Wait! I forgot to mention that my new home isn’t done yet. The movers are holding my stuff in storage and I am staying with friends and family. I don’t have a date for when my home will be finished, but I do have a mailbox and a new address to give out. I hope that by the time you read this that I am indeed settling into my new abode! Here’s a picture of what the living room looked like in the listing (prepacking) and you can compare it to how things looked when the movers arrived. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but my mover thought I had around 200 boxes! Didn’t get a photo of the inside of the moving van, but let’s just say it was FULL!
I talked with my builder recently and he is hoping to be finished by the end of next week, but even if it’s ten days, I can live with that. I’ve decided to hold off going to Florida until after Christmas as this will give me time to slowly unpack and get the new home more or less settled so that when I return I can just enjoy being there and not have a ton of work hanging over my head. As of now I don’t have a home phone, so if you need to reach me do so by email.
Everyone enjoy the holidays coming up, stay healthy, and hope to see you all in 2018!
