JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2018, VOL 43 NO 3

Behind the Wheel2018! Here it is the start of a new year. I’m excited about the prospects it will bring. I have settled very nicely into my new northern home, although I still have many boxes to unpack or sort through. I’m sure there are still items that need to go to a different home either by donation or sales. How do we accumulate so much? Guess if I had the answer to that, I’d be famous.

Have you made any plans for the New Year? Have you given any thought of making changes in your life? I’m just wondering, as a new year is a clean slate to write on, kind of like a “do-over” to correct some of the things we haven’t done in previous years. In this respect, I’m probably like most folks: lose weight, travel more, keep a less cluttered home, and stay in better contact with friends and family. How about you? Are you excited about 2018?

Here are some of the reasons I am excited about 2018. Well, for starters, it’s the beginning of my last year as Chairman, so I’m wondering who will step up to fill my position. If that someone is you, or you might be considering the option; it is not too early to get in touch with me so we can talk. It really has been an amazing experience and it is bittersweet to think that it will come to a close about a year from now.

Another reason is that GT-43 is going to be wonderful! Be sure to read about it in this issue, go to the website and you‘ll even be able to register for the event. Talk about an exciting way to start 2018. The featured car of GT-43 is the MGA Coupe. Wouldn’t it be fabulous to have 43 Coupes at GT-43?

I’m also thinking that very shortly there will be exciting announcements made about the location of the next all MG meet (MG2021). At this time I am sworn to secrecy as we are waiting for contracts to be signed, but I can tell you that it will be an once-in-a-lifetime experience that you won’t want to miss. That’s all I can say now, but hopefully the mystery will be revealed in the not so distant future.

2018 also means that I will be starting the year off in my southern home and I am so looking forward to being in warm and sunny weather. It’s gotten too cold for me in PA, though it’s been slightly above average weather-wise and friends are asking me to stay as they think I’m the reason it’s not bitter cold. That’s a laugh as we all know that soon it will be bitter cold, icy, and snowy in PA and thank you, but no thanks. I will be heading south!

Sometime during 2018 I will be commemorating a milestone high school graduation event. Now how is that even possible, as we all know that was only a few years ago? Time waits for no one and thankfully our cars are timeless, not to mention magical, as we are transported back to our earlier years every time we take one for a drive.

I am hoping that each of you has a healthy and happy 2018. I am also hoping that I get to see many of you at some point during the year wherever our paths may cross, be that GT-43, GOF South, or some local event. Until then, enjoy the ride!
