GT Car Classes
Car Show Policy and Classes: To qualify for any awards given at a National GT, the registrant must be a NAMGAR Regular Member of record. Car Classes: A class is composed of one or more cars. Factory manufactured car classes are:
A. 1500 Wire Wheel
B. 1500 Non-wire Wheel
C. 1600 Wire Wheel
D. 1600 Non-wire Wheel
E. 1600 Mk II
F. Twin Cam
G. Deluxe
H. Coupe
I. Magnette (ZA, ZB, Mk III, Mk IV/Farina)
J. Variant
Variant: This car class is defined as an Elva Courier, TVR or any vehicle with either an MGA chassis or originally powered by an MGA engine.
To be eligible for placement in any of the above Factory manufactured classes, the car must retain its original engine or have been fitted with a replacement B-series engine.
Additional NAMGAR classes are:
Altered: This car class consists of vehicles from any factory manufactured class that no longer retain their original engine, or a replacement B-series engine, resulting in the car not falling into its factory manufactured car class. No vehicle in the Altered car class will progress to the Premier Class.
Premier: This car class consists of vehicles in any factory manufactured car class (as listed above except for Altered A) which wins in class in the car show at a National GT. Upon winning its class, the vehicle must then compete in the Premier Class for three years. If it wins the Premier Class within the three-year period, it shall be shown in the Premier Emeritus for the balance of the three-year period. At the end of the three-year period, the car may remain in Premier Emeritus or return to its factory manufactured car class at the next National GT car show. If the vehicle places first in its class a second time, it would then be eligible to compete for a second Premier award.
Premier Emeritus: This car class consists of Premier cars as outlined above as well as any car so designated by the NAMGAR Chairman or Vice Chairman. There is no award to this class; it is not a voted class.
MGB: This car class consists of all MGBs and is open to non-NAMGAR attendees. Even though this is a voted class, and the winner receives an award, no vehicle in the MGB car class will progress to the Premier Class. This class is offered during the GT at the discretion of the Host Committee and is not required.
Other British: This car class consists of any British-manufactured car not identified above and is open to non-NAMGAR attendees. Even though this is a voted class, and the winner receives an award, no vehicle in the Other British car class will progress to the Premier Class. This class is offered during the GT at the discretion of the Host Committee and is not required.
Preservation Class: This car class recognizes those cars that the owners feel are “original.” Cars in this class are not eligible for NAMGAR class awards, Premier or Premier Emeritus; it is not a voted class.
The number of Awards per class is given based on the number of cars in a class, in the following manner:
First Place Award Only: 1 to 3 vehicles
First and Second Place Awards: 4 to 8 vehicles
First through Third Place Awards: 9 to 15 vehicles
First through Fourth Place Awards: 16 to 20 vehicles
First through Fifth Place Awards: 21 or more vehicles
