Where Can I Find…
e.g. HMK43 55671
The Chassis Number, or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), is the primary identification used by NAMGAR to register your MGA, and is most important. The Chassis Number will be found on a plaque on the horizontal firewall immediately in front of the the heater core (image above). It may also be found on the title. If it is impossible for you to recover the Chassis Number, we will asssign a dummy number and use the body number for identification. Following are examples of typical Chassis Numbers:
1500 roadster – HDA43/34233 (chassis number between 10101-68850)
1600 roadster – GHNL/93434 (chassis number between 68851-100351)
Mark II Roadster – GHNL2/102293 (chassis number between 100352-109070)
Twin Cam Roadster – YD3/1293 (chassis number between 501-2611)
e.g. B 54925
The body number can be found on a plate on the vertical firewall next to the right-hand (passenger side) hood hinge (image above). The number is often painted over, but can usually be read with a little effort.
e.g. 15GBUH 45910
The engine number is on the right-hand side of the block behind the oil dipstick (image above). The plate was aluminum and may have dissolved away when the engine was cleaned during a rebuild. If the number is missing, it can sometimes be found on the Chassis Number plaque in the 1500 models.
