“Driving the Dream” Team is Back Home

After four months of travel anti-clockwise through the US and Canada, the two cars from the Canadian Classic MG Club in Vancouver, Canada, are back in British Columbia.

They left home early June. Steve and Sheila Kaufman in their ’61 MGA, and Richard Loeppky and Linde Schoepper in their ’66 MGB. They drove over 18,000 miles and had almost no problems with the two cars. Rough road surfaces affected wheel alignment, trashed a set of tires on both cars, and shook the front end of the MGA completely loose. The generator on the MGB needed a new rear bush, while the non-stock alternator on the MGA wore out a set of brushes.

Briefly their route took them from Vancouver to MG2011 in Reno, and then to the west coast of California. From there, they headed east through Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas to the Florida Keys. Then they headed north up the US east coast into Canada, before turning west for the long drive home. Details of their adventures along the route can be found on their blog.

In the 123 days they were on the road, they slept in 89 different beds, and travelled through 33 US states and 5 Canadian provinces, some more than once.

Shown below the team is in Cape Spear, Newfoundland, the most easterly point on the North American continent, and about as far as possible from home in Tsawwassen, BC.
