Power Steering For Your MGA
Have you ever sat in your MGA having just flush parked it, and thought “it would be nice to have power steering”?
A company in the UK, EZ Electric Power Steering UK, can supply a PS conversion kit for the MGA. No cutting or welding is required as they supply a replacement steering column, which uses the existing mounting points in the MGA. It fits LHD and RHD cars, and can be fitted by a competent mechanic in just one day. It is available for positive and negative ground cars.
In a LHD car the motor points up at a slight angle, and is well clear of your knees.
The driver can adjust the level of assistance by turning a knob, that can be mounted on or under the dash. The unit is load sensitive, so as you speed up to around 35mph, the assistance tapers off to zero, and will come and go as required automatically.
The system is fail-safe. Should there be an electrical problem in the car, it will drive only as heavy as before the conversion. The unit comes with a 2-year warranty, and costs about USD2,300, including shipping costs to the US or Canada.
